KHARAASHEIN

Kharaashein, a collage of Gulzar’s literary creations on riots, is a treat for the lovers of literature and sensitive cinema. It gives a powerful message of how important it is to rise above narrow confines and mindsets and to create a peaceful heaven for all of us. Interwoven with a selection of Gulzar's poetry, Kharaashein is a collage of four stories depicting the scars of communal riots over a period of sixty years of independence. Hilsa is a reflection of the typical middle class attitude towards the happenings around us. Ravi Paar is a story about one of the several individual tragedies that happened during partition and shows how we failed to learn from our past. Khauff is a dramatization of the havoc that fear can cause on the psyche of a common man trapped in such imposed situations.Khuda Hafiz presents how relationships evolve even under the stress of a riot inflicted situation. The question is will we ever learn from our mistakes?

YUVAA was invited to perform Kharaashein at the 5th Punjab Theatre Festival at Punjab Natshala, Amritsar, as a special entry. It is one of Yuvaa's most critically acclaimed productions.
